Unfortunately many topics are deemed "inappropriate" for this tribe and interesting postings are removed. Fortunately the "Animal Intelligence" tribe is less hostile to the idea that animals have intrinsic value because of their feelings and emotions. On that tribe, animals are not seen simply as food, or as annoyances to a sterile, artificial lifestyle.
At tribes.tribe.net/animalintelligence, we will mostly discuss the behavior, intelligence, and emotions of wild animals. We will also look into scientific methods of measuring animal intelligence. We will explore the mental worlds of species throughout the Animal Kingdom, not just cats and dogs. And we won't ignore the argument that intelligence and emotion are the basis for animal rights.

Re: Inappropriate topics
Mon, November 20, 2006 - 9:26 AMThe topic of Ethology is to study the behavior of the animal, not just their unmeasurable emotions or people's ethical feelings towards eating them or not. PETA is an unallowable topic in this tribe. We are not here to protest whaling or screaming about the fur trade. I have said it before and I will say it over and over and over. We are not here to discuss ethics. We are here to discuss what causes behavioral differences among individuals and species. I am a meat eater. I am a plant eater. I eat plants just like many animals do. I eat meat just like many animals do. None of that has any bearing on behavior, unless the hunting pressure causes animals to avoid an area. When the pressure is removed, either from coyotes, mountain lions or humans, then after awhile, the hunted animal reutilizes the area. If you want to protest eating meat, go yell at the coyotes. Go march on Washington to go punish mountain lions. Protest all the bears, they eat meat as well. Protest all the baboons, they eat meat as well. This is not an ethics tribe, but an ethology tribe. -
