We have noticed a problem with both our dog and one of our cats. When my boyfriend's 7 yo son is here on the weekends the cat poops in my roommate's (the cat's owner) room and our dog pees in the son's room and the roommate's room. They *only* do it when he's here even though they have free reign of the whole house all the rest of the time. They seem to get along with the boy amicably otherwise. This morning we put Riley (our dog) outside first thing to go pee. When we let him back in he went and peed in the son's room. Anyone know how we can fix this problem?

Re: Jealousy?

Dogs don't try and get 'revenge',(i am not sure about cats tho... they are sneaky) although many people believe they do by asssessing their actions. These things are more about him being nervous, scared or insecure than him 'taking it out'...
The smell also makes him go back to the same spot - which means you have to clean it very very well, and try and neutralize the smell. If that fails, keep the door to your sons room closed, try and reassure him.
Give him a lot of attention and love, and note that you should play with both the son and the dog (go on walks together)...
talk to the vet about these things as well, as they usually know your dog (or cat) well enough to estimate a good reason why he might be nervous when the child is around.
