HD TV

I've read a few articles regarding how High Definition television is enrapturing animals. It seems that previous sucky tv was only seen as movements and blurs to animals but HD Tv is just as visible as normal sight to an animal, which may seem a benefit but people everywhere are complaining that Fluffy wont get the hell away from the tv screen whenever animal planet is on.

Does anyone have HD tv and have they noticed a difference in their Pets interest? Because someone Tivo'd canine karma and it wasnt me

Ha, ha -- so your doggie likes Charlie and Kari!!

Actually I have noticed a difference in Strider's interest in television since we got our HDTV, especially when there are animal shows on.

I don't know if he recognizes that those are dogs or wolves he is watching but he does do the "ears forward head tilt" when they are barking or making other sounds. With HDTV you also get clearer sound in addition to a crisper picture so maybe it's a combination of being able to see the images better (we have a 32" screen) and hear the doggie and wolf sounds.

Fortunately, Strider doesn't know how to work the remote or the digital recording function and is happy enough with the dog programs I record (we especially like the Dog Whisperer; have seen all the K9 Karma shows so don't watch those so much).

This would actually make an interesting research subject. I will mention it to some professors I know and see if they take the bait. Who knows, maybe I can get a Master's out of it?! We shall see.

Geez! Can you imagine the field day advertisers will have if this proves to be true? A whole new world of commercials designed to attract the attention of family pets. :)

this is a great research subject! So much to be learned. I'm curious about whether dogs and cats can see images on the computer too. Our cat really seems to "watch" the computer when he's on someone's lap in front of it, especially if it's pictures or movies on the computer, but our dog isn't the slightest bit interested in this silly box we spend so much time at, lap or no lap. Is there that much of a difference in what dogs and cats see?

my former dogs (they stayed with my ex after the divorce) liked to watch tv - didn't seem to matter what it was, they just seemed fascinated.....I'm taking care of my sister's cat for a few months, and he likes to watch Animal Planet - really - he sits on the couch and WATCHES, tail switching...when I'm on the computer, like...right now, for example, he seems to think that I ought to just be looking at his butt. niiice.

My dogs don't watch my "sucky" tv. But we watched the dog show that was on Discovery a couple of weeks ago, and every once in a while, Lizzie would go running toward the screen at one of the dogs. I think she was trying to get it to chase her.
